World War II was fought in Europe and Asia by the Allies (the United States, the Soviet Union, Great Britain, France and China) against the Axis powers (Germany, Italy and Japan). Anyone can earn credit-by-exam regardless of age or education level.
World War 2 started in September 1939 when Germany attacked Poland.
But most of the rest of the world didn't like this, and so they went to war. The British sent many of their children to Canada and Australia to escape the war.
Sweden and Switzerland managed to stay out of the war by saying they were neutral. In London, to escape German bombs falling from the sky, people would hide in the London subway.
